Vol. XLI Julia Farr

Julia Farr

My life…is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what’s going to happen next.” –Gilda Radner, actress

Julia Farr, a sixth-generation Washingtonian and mother of three, spent 17 years as a corporate attorney and considered herself set with a happy family and successful career. But after a life-changing event that spurred the desire to spend more time with her children, she took a close look at her life through a very different lens. “I liked practicing law, but adore fashion and working with women to make them look and feel their best,” she says. Farr’s realization resulted in a major life decision: She quit the legal profession to pursue her dream of opening a namesake boutique in Friendship Heights.

Although she spent most of her career as a corporate securities attorney, her love affair with fashion began at a young age, and blossomed during the time she spent in Paris and New York as a young woman.  Julia’s first professional foray into the fashion world was in 2002 when she sold the Worth Collection clothing through trunk shows.  Julia and her partner, Amy Boyce, achieved enormous success at Worth, placing first in national sales in 2004 by more than doubling the company’s previous highest sales record.

Julia’s success was due to her unique ability to personally match each of her clients with the essential pieces of the season, creating the perfect, individualized wardrobe.  Julia also discovered tremendous personal satisfaction in guiding her clients in the construction of their wardrobe, reflecting their style and addressing their needs.

The primary and unique concept of Julia Farr is wardrobe architecture.  Julia and her colleagues work with each individual client to build her wardrobe like an architect designs and constructs a building.  Each piece is essential, supporting and complementing the others, with personal expression and flexibility woven throughout.  Julia takes the time to assemble a wardrobe, one exquisite piece at a time, giving a woman that sought-after, in vogue, day-to-evening versatility.   Julia Farr offers clothing and accessories from established and emerging designers, with a focus on chic, essential pieces.  To provide premier service, Julia Farr offers custom  designs of each season’s “must have” pieces , under the JULIA FARR label.

The storefront, which welcomed its first clients in July, stocks work-ready pieces—jackets, cashmere sweaters, pencil skirts—as well as chic sheaths and party dresses by Rachel Roy, Catherine Malandrino, Cynthia Steffe, Halston Heritage, Milly, Susana Monaco, Tibi and the debut collection from Jane Oh, along with Farr’s own eponymous line. The boutique also carries jewelry by Kara Ross and DC designers Sissy Yates, Meredith Merrill and Katherine Hoffman. For her clients concerned about buying cookie-cutter looks that will show up all over town, Farr keeps a record of who buys which look for each event, so that the dreaded outfit duplication is avoided.

We all have unique ways in changing our Life’s Journey.  It is important to know that you are in charge, and have the options to make decisions that may lead to a more fulfilling life. Julia, was successful in her pervious career, however want to fulfill a desire and passion.  This is what creating a Life Brand is all about.  Leading to a life of joy, happiness, & fulfillment.
